What a technical CV needs
Group technical skills by type, such as languages, frameworks, platforms and tools, and list them as words rather than ratings. Put certifications with their dates where a recruiter will see them. Then let the experience section do the persuading: what you built, the stack you used, and the outcome, such as a release shipped, a cost cut or a system migrated.
Contractors can group short engagements under one heading with the client, dates and a line each, rather than repeating a full entry for every six-month contract. Keep acronyms consistent: write the term in full once if a non-specialist recruiter will read the CV first. Technical CV examples often run to two pages, and that is fine.
Technical CV examples from contractors often need a short summary of rate-relevant facts: availability, security clearance where you hold one, and the client sectors you know. Put those in the profile or a short details line rather than scattered through the roles.
For graduate and early-career engineers, put a projects section above work experience when the projects are stronger: a final-year build, a hackathon entry or open-source contributions with links. Move it down once paid roles carry more weight.
The technical CV templates
Borough is a classic single column and the safest choice for job boards. Euston and Stratford use a timeline, which suits contract histories, and Southwark and Vauxhall are compact for dense experience.
Aldgate and Canary Wharf put skills in a left-hand sidebar, which keeps a long tool list tidy. Two-column layouts read well to a hiring manager but can be read out of order by some software, so use them when a person will see the CV first. Every preview is a real render of the same sample candidate; compare all of them on the CV templates page.

Try one with your CVHow should I list technical skills on a CV?
Group them by type (languages, frameworks, platforms, tools) and list them as plain words. Avoid ratings and bars; show depth through the projects in your experience section instead.
Should a technical CV include projects?
Yes. A short projects section, or project detail inside each role, is the evidence behind your skills list. Say what you built, with what, and what changed as a result.
How long should a technical CV be?
Two pages for most experienced engineers and IT professionals. Contractors with many short engagements can group them to stay within two pages.
Are sidebar CV templates a good idea for IT jobs?
They keep long skills lists tidy and read well to a person. For online applications a single-column template such as Borough is the safer choice.
