What a creative resume template should do

A creative resume template earns its keep by making your work easy to find. Put your portfolio or case study link directly under your name, keep a short summary that names your specialty, and list experience with the brands, campaigns or products you worked on and what happened as a result.

Restraint is part of the craft. A single accent color, two typefaces and consistent spacing show more design sense than icons, charts and skill meters. If you freelance, group contracts under one heading with the clients named, so a hiring manager sees a career rather than a string of short gigs.

Before you send a creative resume, check it twice: once at full size for the design, and once pasted into a plain text editor to confirm your name, portfolio link and work history read in the right order.

Seven creative layouts

Peckham and Soho open with a colored banner header. Notting Hill uses a timeline that suits contract and freelance histories, Wapping is a classic single column with expressive type, and Whitechapel is compact for long client lists.

Hackney and Clerkenwell carry a sidebar for tools and skills, which works well for a resume read by a creative director in person; for online applications, a single-column layout is the safer choice. Each preview is a real render of the same sample candidate. Compare every layout on the resume templates page or look at the stylish templates with curved headers.

Your resume, in a creative template

Upload the resume you already have, as PDF or Word, and get it back in the creative resume template you choose, exported as PDF and editable Word. Send the PDF when the design matters; it keeps type and color exactly.

Writing the creative resume content

Describe work as brief, output and result: redesigned onboarding emails for a subscription app, lifting activation by a stated amount. Name clients where you can, and describe confidential work by industry and size.

Keep the tools list honest and short, grouped by type: design, motion, content, analytics. Hiring managers trust a focused list more than one that names every app you have opened once.

Inside a template

A small, governable design system.

Organisation defaults flow into a strict template definition the renderer can reproduce safely — the same definition drives the preview and both exports.

Are creative resume templates ATS friendly?

Single-column creative layouts such as banner, timeline and classic designs read in order, which is what applicant tracking systems need. Two-column designs are better kept for resumes a person reads directly.

Where should my portfolio link go on a creative resume?

Directly under your name with your other contact details, written out as text so it can be copied. Avoid putting it only inside an image or icon.

Should a creative resume be one page?

One page suits early-career creatives. With eight or more years of work and notable clients, two pages is fine, as long as the first page carries the strongest work.

Can I change the colors on a creative resume template?

The stock templates come in set colors. Building your own palette needs a custom template, which starts on the Starter plan at $19 a month.
