The modern resume format, as recruiters read it now
A modern resume format opens with your name, a one-line headline and a two or three line summary instead of an objective statement. Experience follows in reverse-chronological order with results in each bullet, then skills, education and certifications. A LinkedIn URL replaces the street address, and lines such as references available on request have disappeared. Modern resume formatting is mostly restraint: one accent color, clear section breaks and dates aligned on every role, which is what each modern resume format template here is built around.
Modern does not mean busy. Icons, skill meters and dense multi-column grids age quickly and can confuse software. Clean type, generous spacing and dates aligned the same way on every role are what make a resume look current.
Seven modern resume templates
Camden is a classic single column with modern type and the most versatile template here. Angel uses a timeline, Brixton and Shoreditch lead with a colored banner, and Hoxton is compact for a long career.
Dalston and Bermondsey carry left and right sidebars. Use them for resumes a person reads directly and pick a single-column template for online applications. Each preview is a real render of the same sample candidate; see every layout on the resume templates page.
A modern resume template in Word
Many employers and staffing firms still ask for a Word file. Upload your current resume as PDF or Word and get it back in the modern template as both: the PDF is exact, and the Word document is a close approximation you can keep editing.

Keeping a modern resume current
Update the summary for each application so it names the role you are applying for. Keep bullets to one or two lines, start each with a verb, and put a number in where you genuinely have one. Remove roles older than about fifteen years unless they explain where you are now.
Before you send it, print page one in grayscale and paste the text into a plain editor. If nothing important disappears and the text reads in order, the modern resume format is doing its job for both people and software.
A small, governable design system.
Organisation defaults flow into a strict template definition the renderer can reproduce safely — the same definition drives the preview and both exports.

Try one with your resumeWhat is the modern resume format?
A headline and short summary, reverse-chronological experience with results, then skills, education and certifications. No objective statement, no street address and no references line.
Do modern resume templates work with applicant tracking systems?
The single-column ones do, because their text reads in order. Sidebar designs are better for resumes a person reads directly.
Can I use a modern resume template in Word?
Yes. Every template exports an editable Word document alongside the PDF, both generated from the same saved version of your resume.
Should I include an objective on a modern resume?
No. A short summary that states what you do and the level you work at has replaced the objective statement on most modern resumes.
